- In order to realize the full potential of its collections, the Rosenbach Museum and Library will merge its collection into the Free Library of Philadelphia, says the Inquirer. At the heart of the mater are shifting trends in the city’s philanthropic community. “Foundations have grown less likely to give general operating support (grants unrelated to one-time programs), and those that do require more paperwork, which demands staff time the Rosenbach no longer has the resources for.” The merger should be complete by June 30, upon the nominal approval of various stakeholders.

- On Monday, some 200 advocates for charter expansion protested outside the headquarters of the School District. This year, 21 charters are requesting a combined 6,000 new seats from the District. Yet it’s not so easy, says Donna Cooper, the executive director of the advocacy group Public Citizens for Children and Youth. “We don’t have a printing press for cash. So we need to…look at the state and say, ‘restore the cuts that were made, and then we can turn around and have this discussion about expansion and more quality seats.’”
