- The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation is poised to secure the next piece of its envisioned Allegheny-to-Oregon Avenue riverside trail, a strip of land behind the Sheet Metal Workers Union site in Pennsport. Eric Blumenfeld and his Liberty Landing Association, which holds the relevant lot (1301 South Christopher Columbus Boulevard), will retain “control of two other piers behind the planned trail extension for possible future development” after the subdivision is formalized, reports Plan Philly. Next up is Bart Blatstein, who holds the parcel immediately south.
- The observation deck planned for One Liberty Place will not be ready for a summer opening,reports Philadelphia magazine, yet will likely happen soon after Labor Day. An announcement of the new space’s name is expected as early as next week.
- The Delaware River Port Authority board approved yesterday the replacement—at nearly $7.4 million—of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge’s moveable “zipper” traffic barrier that was installed in 2000. The steel-and-concrete barrier, says The Inquirer, “will allow wider travel lanes and be easier to operate and maintain.”
- West Philly Local is amazed at how quickly a modular apartment building went up on a vacant lot at 46th & Sansom Streets. Sansom Street Flats is expected to be complete in August.
- On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Museum of Art will host a Wikipedia “Edit-a-Thon” in order to create and supplement articles relating to African-American artists and their works. The event has been organized in conjunction with the last few weeks of the museum’s “Represent: 200 Years of African American Art,” itself meant to raise awareness of the pivotal role that black American have played in portraying the American experience for two centuries.
