- At a community meeting last night, CHOP presented updated plans for its massive, four-phase clinical research facility to be built beneath the South Street Bridge, where the Springfield Beer Distributor and the old JFK Vocational High School are now located. Naked Philly says that CHOP and its architects at Cooper Robertson and Partners have been receptive to community input, including the possibility of infusing additional retail opportunities into the project. What is definite at this point though, is the amount of open space—including a pivotal segment of the Schuylkill River Trail—envisioned for the site.
- NEast Philly reports that the two-year effort for the Mural Arts Program to present Frankford’s history and character on four murals we be complete by the end of June.“Imagining Frankford” was designed by muralist Cesar Viveros, who incorporated the visions and aspirations of those he met around the neighborhood. Netanel Portier, project manager for Philadelphia Mural Arts Advocates, believes the murals “show residents where this neighborhood has been and hopefully it can instill a vision in someone’s mind where they think that’s what they can be.”
- The Philadelphia Real Estate Blog sees good signs for Callowhill’s redevelopment on the 1200 of Buttonwood Street, as “a trio of two-family dwellings” are being constructed from the vacant shells of 1231-35.“This gateway to North Philly is in the middle of a resurgence that includes several new construction developments, a few new restaurants, and then there might be that new Blatstein casino.”
